Okay, so I must admit the past week has been difficult. I have had customers yell at me everyday at work. Mostly for things I had no control over. I realize that I am the face of my company, so their complaints must come to me, whether it is about something I have control over or not, but I do not expect people to be rude, condescending and hateful to me. If you have a customer service issue, or an issue with your eyewear you should come and speak to the me in respectful, calm tones. Don't slander the salesperson by calling them names, don't threaten their lively hood. Don't try to tell them how to do their job.
Now for the tie in to the title, as we at work were thinking about this we realized we get treated the worst at this time of year. The same problems could happen in June and not nearly as many people would become belligerent. This is an unfortunate reflection on people during the Holiday season. They are so consumed with their shopping, the amount of money they are spending and the stress of family during this time, that unfortunately those of us around them feel their stress. Customer service, service industry, Doctors offices personnel are some of the worst treated people during this time of year. Trust me, we understand your stress, we are dealing with it as well. I know that we have a tendency to get belligerent right back, but how would you feel if every single frikkin day somebody yelled at you....
All of us, have forgotten the true meaning and feelings of the Holidays. Remember that the Holidays are not about how much you buy, get or do for others, but the total UNSELFISH act of Christ. Remember Mary and Joseph's sacrifice...I have a hard time picturing Joseph yelling at the innkeeper about not having a room. Share Christ's love with EVERYONE, even if you feel ripped off, cheated, or just stressed. When you reach the boiling point, try to step back, feel HIS love flow into you, and then let it flow out. Remember that customer service person has probably already been yelled at several times, and can probably not do everything you want to demand of them.
